My name is Jonathan Ryan and I’m a photographer.
Even when I’m not “working” I’m usually out and about with a camera. That’s why you’ll see a lot of my personal work on this site. And the “thing” I enjoy photographing most is people.
Why should that matter to you? After all, you probably dropped in here to browse for prices for a wedding photographer, to think about having your baby photographed or even to pick up some tips. Why does it matter to you that I enjoy this so much that I’d do it even if I didn’t get paid for it? (And no, that’s not a cue to ask for a discount). For me the answer’s simple: here are approximately 17 million bazillion photographers in the UK. Why not pick one that you’ll enjoy spending time with? So yes, I like to think I’m the kind of person you’ll get on with. Because if you’re having a good time then I’ll get great pictures of you.
Here’s one of my core beliefs: when you see a picture of yourself you instantly remember exactly how you felt at the moment it was taken. That’s why those faded holiday snaps mean so much to you and why a boring, stuffy, formal portrait makes you wince every time you see it.
So kick back, relax and have a snoop round my website. It probably “feels” a little different to other photographers’ websites but that’s because I’d rather you got to know me than just spend 10 minutes gazing at the pictures. I have a whole gallery (a real one not just a web gallery) for you to do that in.
Imagine you had the most amazing picture taken of you and you lost it because the ink faded. Or the corners of your wedding album started to curl after you’d flipped through the pages for a while. Or you looked closely at those amazing images and realised they could have been done by Monet – fine from a distance but up close they are a bit of a mess.
So you won’t see different quality options in albums – you can choose which style you like but I’d expect any of them to last a lifetime. If you ask me to frame something for you then it’s going to be to gallery standards using ArtCare boards and frames. If a print is done on an inkjet for you then it will be a Giclée archival print on long lasting fineart paper. But most prints are done the old school way using light sensitive paper and silver.
And yes, I have a really nice camera. Actually I have several. My current favourite is my Hasselblad medium format digital camera. Huge, heavy, slow and ludicrously expensive. But you should see the files….
Does all of that cost more? A little. But not as much as doing it again.
For my clients I excel in one thing only.
I photograph weddings (lots of those), babies, maternity, fashion, events, portraits even the odd bit of sports. Notice what all of those have in common? Yes, I take pictures of people and I love every minute of it.
Take a look at my “picture of the week” project and you’ll see all kinds of stuff. From holiday snaps to big cats. But people hire me to do what I do best. They also hire me because the know I love doing it and that this will show in the pictures.
This is a great place to start to get a feel for me and my photography. But don’t base your decision on what you see on the web. Make your own mind up. I built a whole gallery for you in my garden. Come round. Have a coffee. Relax. Chat. Look at some pictures on the h-u-g-e screen. Jump over to the contact page to get started.
