Casual reportage is very much in at the moment. Many couple are saying to me “we don’t want to bother with all that posing – just shoot what you see”. And that’s great. Most people want at least a few posed pictures thoguh. Usually I find a few minutes to take pictures alone with the bride and groom. You’ll be amazed at the pictures we can make together in 10 – 15 minutes. And then it’s back to the guests for the party.
It’s the same thing with groups. Personally I would hate having a photographer tell me what to do for an hour or more – so I don’t do that. I will usually attempt to get group formals done in 15 minutes or so. There’s always time to get more relaxed pictures at other times of the day and anyway most of the guests are there to have fun.
Last week I was asked to shoot a bridal fashion show at St Augustines in Westgate. I’ve shot this before for them and always have a great time. The models look stunning in their designer dresses and the chapel is always lit beautifully. At the end of the show, all the models walk up the the altar together for the finale. Just as it finished, I decided I had to have a group shot. The audience was emptying out of the chapel and the models wanted to get changed. I ran up and spent about 30 seconds bossing people around and then had time for one shot. 13 brides, 2 grooms, 2 brides’ mothers and a bridesmaid. I like a challenge.
You can see the rest of the fashion show here.
