The one with the hawk.  The one with the fire.  The one where they played guitar hero.  The one with the waistcoat.  The one with the most gorgeous photo album ever.

Where to even start with this one?  It has so many names…

Let’s start, as most girls’ dream weddings do, with some killer boots and a gargoyle.

Oh and if you’re wondering what the tree behind the boots is, it’s a really cool table plan created by Angela.  Don’t bother trying to guess what their tables are named after though – unless you are into Final Fantasy and know the names of all the summoned creatures…

So Angela and her bridesmaids were pretty much ready to go.

with just a final check of the iPad, obviously.  Then plan was to start hair and makeup at home and then travel to Rivervale Barn to get dressed.  This meant that the very first time I saw the dress it had already been transported to the barn in its cover and hung up in the dressing room.  Worth the wait though – that’s a dress called Katie by Madeline Isaac-James.  Oh and the Converse?  Well killer boots are all very well for getting married in, but you wouldn’t wear them for dancing would you?  Or playing Guitar Hero…

Meanwhile, the guys were getting ready. Alex was of course in the car park, being wired into his Adam Ant sty;e waistcoat by his best man.  Like you do.

Plus the more usual button holes.

And then it was transformation time.

With just the tiniest hint of rain in the air, Angela need the use of an umbrella to step across the courtyard where her husband to be was waiting.

Now I said at the start of the piece that this could be called “the one with the hawk”.  That’s because, well, there was a Harris Hawk called Tess present, courtesy of  Birds4AllOccasions.  Well, an owl as ring bearer would be a little common!

Yep.  A rather large bird of prey swooping from the back of a dark room carrying the rings.  And all I had to do was get a picture.  No pressure… (trust me, the pressure comes later).

And then Angela Taylor and Alex Martin were married.  In some style as it happens.

Of course, the birds all hung around for a while after the wedding for anybody who wanted to recreate Ladyhawke (yes, I know it should be Alex/Rutger Hauer holding a hawk and Angela/Michelle Pfeiffer with a wolf – please don’t write in…)

Before what I rather loosely term the formal pictures.  No, you probably shouldn’t ask why the guys are all pointing at their favourite part of the garden.

You may have figured out by now that Alex and Angela like to do things a little differently.  So it was actually a surprise that they chose to cut their Choccywoccydoodah with a regular knife.  Especially as Alex was heard to say

I’ll just nip home for a sword …

Like you do.

And after the cake cutting, there was a little time to take some portraits of our bride and groom in the evening light..

I mentioned earlier that I felt under some pressure to deliver even more awesome pictures than usual.  And indeed I was.  But not for the reason you think.

It wasn’t the challenge of shooting a moving bird in flight.  It wasn’t because of the fire performer the bride and groom had booked.  It wasn’t the beautiful Rivervale Barn in Yately that was putting pressure on me.  It wasn’t even the Guitar Hero that I knew was coming up.

It was this.

By far the most beautiful wedding album I’ve ever seen.  Handmade by Alex’s family as a wedding gift.  Every bit of it custom made, from the book itself to the binding, to the chain work on the front to the jewell belonging to Alex’s grandmother incorporated in it to the stunning box complete with inlaid knot work.

The hinges took 3 days to make

And my pictures are going in it. That kind of pressure.

After that, it all seemed pretty easy. Plus you can probably guess what happened next.

First there was the fire performance.

And the metal first dance.

And of course, if somebody else was going to play with fire, then you can bet Mr and Mrs Martin would get their hands on some fire too.

And, well, of course no wedding is really complete without a round of FGuitar Hero.  Bride on drums, groom on lead and best man on bass…

With just time for one more picture….
