Some people ask me “what’s it like at one of your photoshoots?”.  And I start using words like “cool” and “awesome” and waving my arms.  And then I thought…why don’t I just show you?

So here’s a real video of a real shoot with a real bride doing a real trash the dress.  For real.  There are pictures at the end too.  There are also pictures below.

I’d LOVE to hear what you think of it.  Videos like this take a lot of work but I rather enjoy them.  So shout out in the comments below if you want to see more and what kind.  And if you want to organise your own shoot (trash the dress or something a little calmer) then just get in touch.

For the tech head photographers out there: Hasselblad H3D-II 31 + 80mm and 150mm lenses.  Light from 2 X Elinchrom FX400s in the “dry” area, 1 X Bron Mobil 1,200 w/s head in the wet.  And yes, both Broncolor and Hasselblad say not to do this in the rain.

For everyone else: yes she really did jump out of that tree.  And the dress amazingly was fine.

Here are some pictures from the day.

Don’t forget to tell me if you want more of these.

What a great video! I had never heard of ‘Trash the dress’ before and this video has revealed all! Great concept, wonder how many other brides would do this, it looks like a lot of fun!

Jonathan – what a super idea! It really does look fun, although I’m sure the bride must have been freezing!

Looks amazing and great fun but much too cold for me to try!! Now if it was in the Caribbean…

That could probably be arranged. You can fly the whole crew out there, right?

  • Paul (Jinky)

Great stuff Jonathan – really good insight into your work and such great results

  • Simon

    Nicely done Jonathan.
I look forward to more stuff like this. I especially like that you can see the end result and compare it with the location when you were shooting. This helps me in location scouting.

Absolutely Fantastic video with such a gorgeous bride

No chance you’re biased about the bride, Dave? :)

  • Graham.

    I’d hire you!
By the way, I’ve got a hat like yours but I’m far to embarrassed to actually wear it!

  • Irvin

Is that all there is too it :-)
Actually it’s really quite a informative vid for people to see and to understand what they are gonna get and you do get a feel for your (JR’s)personality thru it

@Graham – yeah I’m regretting the hat now. Warm though :)

We all had the best day despite the weather being dreadful. Photos and video are amazing!

Who would have thought that after 2 washes in the washing machine the dress came out as new and not a mark on it!!

    Lets do it again!!!

  • Eileen

Nice work jonathan. More please! : -)
