I’m primarily a Kent wedding photographer – but just like I do lots of other kinds of photography, I also travel out of Kent. Sometimes quite a long way. And the view from the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel should give you a clue where I was for Colleen and Vince’s wedding.
Yep, that’s an actual cruise liner the size of a hotel – and we don’t get those in Margate!
Like all weddings…it starts with a dress. And champagne, of course.
In fact I was slightly early and Colleen was still at the hairdressers. No problem – Chloe let me in and spent some time explaining that she wasn’t a bridesmaid. But for somebody who wasn’t a bridesmaid, she’d put an awful lot of effort into the details for her friend.
She also helped out with the dress. Just like a bridesmaid would.
And yes. Everybody approved!
And it wasn’t long before the whole wedding party was assembled, including our flower girl.
And the flowers of course.
Though there was a near miss when Colleen thought she might be able to see Vince further down the street. Which prompted much hiding in doorways…
No problem. Vince was waiting for us at the register office.
Ready for that entrance…
And then, after all their planning, and rearrangements, and problems, and triumph and happy times and sad ones….Collenen and Vince got married in front of their family and friends.
And they seemed pretty happy about it!
Since i was a long way from home I hadn’t been able to visit the venue before the wedding. No worries, some tips from locals and a session with Google Street View and I knew the old walls would be perfect for group pictures. Plus we’d walked past them on the way to the wedding.
But for the “serious” pictures we headed out to a local country park. A.k.a. the windiest place on earth. I travel with lots of lights and had several plans – but all of these were shelved as soon as I noticed there was a hurricane blowing!
I asked Colleen to wait in the car while I took some pictures of Vince – we didn’t want to risk her hair in the wind!
“Hey Vince – go stand by that watery stuff and pretend you’re a model” “You mean the Solent….?” “Yeah, whatever….”
Worked though. Despite my lack of knowledge of South Coast estuaries.
The we got Colleen out of the car…
And talking of “the car”…have you ever seen a Japanese car as cool as this?
Thought not. That’s Colleen and Vince’s very own Nissan Figaro. Never have I wanted to steal a wedding car so much!
