The second wedding of a hectic weekend – sometimes it’s tough being a wedding photographer in Kent. Tough but a lot of fun. Emily and David were married at Brands Hatch Place Hotel (not to be confused with the Thistle Brands Hatch which is even closer to the track!).
Bridesmaids Joanna and Chloë don’t seem to know what to think (but really they had already had their turn dancing with coathangers…).
Anyway, who is missing? Oh yes, the bride…
Who was ready so early that we had time to see if she could crawl and lie down on the bed without messing up her dress. Yep.
Meanwhile the boys had a toy to play with.
- Renting an Aston Martin Vantage V8 for a few days – £loads.
- Paying for the petrol. £even more
- The look on your mates’ faces. Priceless.
Before the wedding….laughter and jokes.
During the wedding – hardly a dry eye in the house.
After the wedding, sheer joy. Simply magical.
And then of course it was time for a rather wonderful 4 course meal in the dining room of Brands Hatch Place Hotel. The food was excellent. The service impeccable. The surroundings beautiful. But you know, none of that even begins to compare with finding Ben 10 in your goodie bag.
It’s a long time since I’ve worked at Brands Hatch Place. It was actually one of the first places I worked at when I moved to Canterbury and became a Kent wedding photographer. But there are some things you don’t forget about a venue. Like exactly how many mirrors they have on the wall. It makes lighting the speeches a little challenging making sure the 3 flashguns, photographer, assistant and Les the videographer aren’t visible.
(Yes, OK, that’s my arm….told you it was tricky).
And after dinner we had the ancient tradition of throwing the bouquet. Which was made all the more exciting by doing it from the top of the steps.
Mind you I felt safer at the top of the steps than I would have done in the “scrum” at the bottom…
Part of Emily and David’s brief was that they wanted some unusual modern portraits on their wedding day. No problem – we got pretty creative down at the bottom of the lawn at Brands Hatch Place. Thought Emily drew the line at actually climbing a tree… here’s one of the tamer ones taken late in the day with some lovely soft evening light.
Though it didn’t stay tame for long with David around…
And then….first dance. “All my life” by K-Ci and JoJo. With a little flash on the dance floor.
And as I so often say, there was just time for one more picture as the sun went down……..
Emily and David will be checking this page on their honeymoon – why not leave you thoughts and messages for them below?
