I love weddings in London churches. You have all the hassle of getting there and parking and never getting a clean shot of the outside of the church and all that. But then you go inside. And it looks like this. And you have such a great couple as Sandra and Albert and you know it’s going to be an easy day.
Here are all the bridesmaids waiting for Sandra to make her grand entrance.
And in case you can’t see it in the shot above, here’s a clue that Albert wasn’t wearing a suit.
Yep, most of the male members of the bridal party were in Highland Dress. Which was courageous considering (a) the fact that it was a healthy 2 degrees but much colder in the wind (b) the extremely shiny reflective floor in the church….
They even had a highland theme to their buttonholes.
Technically it’s still winter (and the weather certainly reminded us of that) so a 3 pm wedding in January can be a little dicey. But there was still plenty of light in the air when Mr and Mrs White walked out of the church as husband and wife.
And although the reception was literally next door at the St Brides Institute, we had time for a couple of pictures on the way.
Even if it was quite a brisk walk given the temperature.
And even the area that Sandra likened to a car park didn’t work out too badly…
Over at the institute all the guests were waiting including one very proud father.
Even if a couple of the guests were more interested in their iPods…
And then after dinner it was time for the speeches.
Including a hilarious speech from Thomas, brother to the groom and best man. At least I assume from the reaction it was hilarious. It was in such a broad Scott’s accent that some of the English guests were struggling a little.
And then of course first dance…
…followed by second dance from the excited bridesmaids.
Remember I said at the start that there’s really no clear shot of St Brides on Fleet Street? Over the past 300 or so years it’s been surrounded by tall buildings especially to thwart wedding photographers.
Well, that’s not quite true. There is a shot. But you have to wait until late at night and then lie down on freezing cold concrete in the dark while your assistant shivers and holds a huge flash gun. And who’s going to go to that much trouble? Yeah, couldn’t resist…
There really are enough clues here to work out where Albert and Sandra have gone for their honeymoon (hint: it’s where men wear skirts) but they will be back soon and there will be loads more pictures. In the meantime they will be able to read your comments below.
